The history of the building

Palazzo Cicala, located opposite the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, dates back to the mid-16th century when the ancient Cicala family, which gave Genoa poet-leaders and cardinals, was at the height of its splendor. Later the palace belonged to the De Mari nobles and, in the 18th century, it was bought by the Ferro family, who renovated and decorated it according to refined Rococo models. From the end of the nineteenth century, the palace was used as offices, first by a major insurance company, Italia assicurazioni, and then by a shipping house, Odino Valperga.
